Today it was around 3 in the evening, when I came across a beautiful story about a match and a candle. It left me thinking deeply about how we view our struggles and fears.
The story goes like this: the candle tells the match I am afraid of you because you are my killer, the match laughs and replies, Don’t be afraid of me, my flame can touch stones, tiles, and iron but it cannot destroy anything. You should be afraid of the thread inside you because that’s what will actually burn you. This may seem a very simple conversation but it carries a deep meaning. Oftentimes we blame the outside world for our failures, pain, and sadness, we think people, situations, or events are the reasons behind our struggles, but like the candle we forget to look within. Sometimes, it’s the negative thoughts, doubts, and fears inside us that cause the real damage.
What I am trying to point out is that, instead of fearing the outside world, we should pay attention to our own mindset. So, next time you face challenges ask yourself if the problem is truly external or if it’s coming from within.
